I have had a long term interest in the visual arts. Over the past few years I have been devoting more of my spare time to drawing and painting. I enjoy painting with acrylics because of its versatility and quick drying time. The craft of painting can be a rewarding process. Going from a blank canvas to a complete picture requires faith in one’s abilities and the power to let the paint talk for itself. Other materials that I work with include pencil, charcoal, ink, pastels and silverpoint. Maybe one day I’ll work in oils!

My inspirations come from the Renaissance (Titian, Velasquez and Rembrandt) through to the 20th century (Picasso, Dali, and Francis Bacon). I am interested in all genres of painting: history, landscape, still life, abstract and portraiture. The different genres can feed each other and are not independent of each other. The unique tactile qualities of paint on different surfaces provide our lives with a richness that cannot come from the mass-produced world of today.
